Photographer Alexandre Bagdassarian has documented the restrictive living conditions faced by minors within the French juvenile detention system. Over an eight-month period, the artist captured the stark reality of life inside these facilities, where inmates are often confined to small, impersonal cells. The imagery highlights the limited environment available to these youths, featuring only basic furniture and minimal personal items. The project sheds light on systemic issues, including severe staff shortages that can lead to young detainees spending up to 23 hours a day in isolation. Furthermore, the work underscores concerns regarding the lack of adequate educational and physical activity programs, which have previously drawn criticism from human rights observers regarding the quality of detention conditions in France.
