The Polish Constitutional Tribunal experienced significant instability on Friday as a faction of judges supported by the current government attempted to remove Chief Justice Bogdan Święczkowski from his position. The move is part of an ongoing struggle for authority within the institution, pitting government-aligned officials against those associated with the political opposition and the presidency. Tensions escalated when a judge claimed to have suspended Święczkowski, leading to a physical confrontation at the court premises. Law enforcement officers were deployed to surround the building, effectively blocking the Chief Justice from entering the site. Reports indicate that supporters of the ousted leader attempted to gain access to the grounds by breaching a fence with mechanical equipment. The situation remains fluid as the dispute over the court's leadership continues to unfold.
