General Carsten Breuer, the current chief of the German armed forces, has been selected to chair NATO's Military Committee. During a private ballot held in Copenhagen, Breuer secured the necessary support from a majority of the alliance's 32 defense chiefs. The outgoing chair, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, publicly congratulated Breuer, highlighting his extensive operational experience and leadership capabilities. Breuer is scheduled to assume his new position in July of next year, serving a three-year mandate. To maintain internal cohesion and prevent potential friction among member states, the specific voting tallies were not disclosed by the organization. This appointment marks a significant transition for the alliance's highest military authority, with Breuer expected to leverage his background in managing Germany’s military to guide NATO’s strategic military operations.
