The unified European stance regarding the conflict in Ukraine is experiencing internal tension. Recent direct communications between the leaders of Finland and Norway and Russian President Vladimir Putin have sparked debate among other European officials, despite the Ukrainian government expressing support for these diplomatic initiatives. This development has intensified discussions regarding which representatives hold the authority to negotiate on behalf of Europe. Simultaneously, the European Commission has introduced significant reforms for Frontex, the bloc's border agency, aiming to enhance its capacity for deportations and digital surveillance. Furthermore, in response to recent extreme weather events, Brussels is urging member states to develop strategies for a future where global temperatures rise by three degrees above pre-industrial levels.
