United States President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are scheduled to hold their second face-to-face summit of the year in Maryland this Wednesday. Despite the personal rapport Trump has attempted to cultivate with his Chinese counterpart, significant geopolitical tensions remain between the two global powers. Observers express concern regarding the potential for concessions concerning Taiwan, although analysts anticipate few tangible results from these discussions. While previous meetings emphasized the goal of establishing strategic stability, concrete progress on critical issues has remained elusive. The upcoming talks are expected to focus heavily on the regulation and development of artificial intelligence, a subject that continues to exacerbate the deep-seated distrust defining the current relationship between Washington and Beijing.
