Following the Berlin state elections held on September 20, the left-wing party Die Linke emerged victorious. The campaign, led by Elif Eralp, centered on the promise to socialize housing assets held by major real estate corporations, addressing voter concerns regarding the ability to remain in the city. While the party secured a win, the formation of a governing coalition and the potential appointment of Eralp as mayor remain uncertain. The election results have sparked immediate political debate and criticism regarding the feasibility of these radical housing policies. This electoral success is framed by observers as a strategic response to the rising influence of the far right, emphasizing a platform that prioritizes social stability and urban accessibility over traditional liberal approaches.
